Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan's impressive unofficial OHL point streak was halted at 65 games on Friday night.
The London Knights hosted the last-place Peterborough Petes for the second game of a two-game homestand at Canada Life Place, defeating their opponents 3-1. Cowan did have a chance to keep the streak alive in the third period, hitting the crossbar but to no avail.
The 19-year-old had 106 points (41 goals, 65 assists) during the historic streak.
Cowan’s point streak isn’t officially recognized by the OHL as it spans across two seasons, beginning in the 2023-24 campaign. The streak started on November 25, 2023, when Cowan recorded points in the final 36 regular season games. This year, Cowan has 18 goals, 22 assists, and 40 points through 30 games played.
Maple Leafs legend Doug Gilmour set the OHL mark of 55 straight games with the Cornwall Royals in the 1982-83 season and still technically holds the record. However, Gilmour did recognize Cowan for his accomplishment back in December.
Mario Lemieux maintains the CHL record of 61 straight games with the Laval Voisins of the Quebec League in 1983-84, given it all happened within the same season – which Cowan unofficially surpassed in January.
The Mount Byrdges, Ontario, native was selected in the first round (28th overall) by the Maple Leafs in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, later signing an entry-level contract with the club in the summer.
Cowan has competed in two IIHF World Junior Championships representing Team Canada, collecting five points (two goals, three assists) in 10 games across the two tournaments.
At 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, the ‘Cowboy’ had a career-high 96 points in 54 regular season games last year. In the postseason, he finished the playoffs with 10 goals and 24 assists in 18 games – winning both the regular season and postseason MVP, the first to do it since Mitch Marner did it in 2016.
The Knights currently rank atop the OHL standings with a 40-8-1 record, tallying 81 points through 49 games played.
