Minten, who also served as captain for Team Canada at the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship, went coast-to-coast for a thrilling overtime winner.
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Fraser Minten may not be known for his game-breaking skill, but he demonstrated that on Sunday.
The Saskatoon Blakes forward called his own number and went coast-to-coast in the fourth period, beating Swift Current Broncos goaltender Reid Dyck for his second goal of the game an overtime winner in a 3-2 victory.
The 19-year-old has been on a tear with the Blades since returning from the 2024 World Junior Championship where he served as captain for Team Canada. After his team's heartbreaking quarterfinal loss, Minten returned to Saskatoon and has six goals and seven assists in nine games.
Minten, the Leafs' second-round selection (38th overall) turned heads this fall when the prospect made Toronto's opening night roster. He played in four games where he averaged 11:26 of ice time before ultimately being returned to junior.
He returned to Kamloops Blazers of the WHL and amassed three goals and seven assists in seven games. He was also named club captain before the player was traded to the Blades on Nov. 24 ending his captaincy at 22 days.
After his NHL experience this season, Minten is expected to be a contender to make the Leafs out of camp again next season where he could once again reprise his third-line center role. Based on what he's accomplishing with the Blades, his increased physicality and shooting ability should serve him well in his next go-around with the Leafs.
Minten should also get some good playoff experience this year with the Blades, who currently lead the WHL's East Division with a 33-9-2-3 record.
