When you're hot, you're hot. And in Mitch Marner's case, that means sticking with the same gear.

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward was still wearing the full face shield during the morning skate ahead of the team's game against the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

Marner was sporting a full face shield on Thursday against the Seattle Kraken after suffering an injury to the jaw in the team's 2-1 shootout win against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The forward accounted for all of Toronto's offense recording his second-career hat trick while also scoring the shootout clincher in a 4-3 win on Thursday.

"Probably a good reason why it's still on today," Maple Leafs captain John Tavares said on Saturday. "It was a great night for him."

Marner was injured in the first period against the Panthers on Tuesday but came back for the second and third periods sporting a full cage around his mask. During the morning skate ahead of Thursday's game, Marner experimented with a couple of different setups, including a half-visor along with a plastic chin protector before electing to play in a full glass face protector.

"The fishbowl just felt the best out of all of them," Marner explained after Thursday's game.

Marner had been struggling before that game having generated just three points in his previous seven games. He was moved down to the team's second line as Toronto looked to generate more offense and was a difference-maker with his scoring touch alongside Tavares and Tyler Bertuzzi.

"He's shown his ability over time to be a finisher," Tavares said of Marner. "It was great to see and he came through big time for us."

Marner has eight goals and 15 assists in 21 games this season with the Leafs.
