Sokolowski-Imagn ImagesIt doesn't appear as though Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett will receive any supplemental discipline for his hit on Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz.
That's the word from TSN's Chris Johnston following Toronto's 5-4 win in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series.
After the game on Monday, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was asked about his assessment of the collision on his netminder.
"Elbow to the head. Yeah. Clear. Clear. Clear as day," he said. "I think, we handled it the way we should handle it. I'm not sure why there's not a call on it. But, you know, I get it. They missed calls. But it's clearly a penalty."
No penalty was assessed to Bennett on the play.
Roughly 10 minutes following the hit, Stolarz appeared to be sick on the bench and was forced to depart the game. He was later sent to a local hospital for further evaluation, according to multiple reports. TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports Stolarz has since been released.
When asked if the club would reach out to the NHL's Department of Player Safety, Berube was deferential."
Well, they do their job. They'll look at everything and decide what's necessary. You know, that's all we... I know it's an elbow."
Joseph Woll stepped in and made 17 saves to pick up his first win of the 2025 postseason in what was also his first appearance.
The Leafs hold an optional practice on Tuesday. Game 2 of the series is set to go on Wednesday.
