'It Was An Honour To Serve Our Amazing Fans': Rich Clune Says Goodbye to Maple Leafs Organization in Social Media Post After Accepting Ducks Assistant Coaching Position

The Ducks officially named Clune an assistant the former player spent nine years in various roles with Toronto.

After another disappointing Toronto Maple Leafs playoff loss, it's time to break up the core four forwards and that might mean moving on from Mitch Marner, who becomes a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Rich Clune is officially an Anaheim Duck.

Following a report last week that the Ducks were zeroing in on the former NHLers for an assistant coaching position with the organization, the team made it official with a formal announcement on Friday.

Clune took to his social media where he thanked the Toronto Maple Leafs; an organization where he began his tenure as a member of the Toronto Marlies as a player

"Thank you to the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Marlies for the opportunity to coach since retiring as a player. It was an honour to serve our amazing fans, and thank you to all of the players for their hard work and dedication," Clune said in his post. "Special thanks to Toronto's incredible leaders - Larry Tanenbaum, Brendan Shanahan, Brad Treliving, Hayley Wickenheiser, Ryan Hardy, and John Gruden for your guidance, and to Kyle Dubas and Lou Lamoriello for their impact during my time in Toronto."

My family and I are humbled and extremely excited for the opportunity to join the Anaheim Ducks organization."

Congratulations poured in for Clune following the announcement, including from Marlies executive Ryan Hardy.

Clune first joined the Marlies as a player in 2015 and his contract was converted to an NHL contract later that season where he picked up four assists in 19 games with the Maple Leafs. Following that brief stint, he became a mainstay with the Marlies and was later named club captain, becoming a popular player in the room throughout the following six seasons.

Clune announced his retirement as a player following the 2021-22 season and immediately joined Toronto's player development staff.
