Nylander missed Games 1 and 2 with a mysterious injury after playing in all 82 regular season games for Toronto.

William Nylander has been on the ice over the last couple of days but the Toronto Maple Leafs forward was unable to participate in the first two games of his team's first-round playoff series.

Speaking to reporters at the team's hotel before flying back to Toronto, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe was asked about how Nylander is feeling and the prospects he'd play in Game 3.

"Well, obviously there's no update today. There's not much happening for us today except for getting ready to travel, but there's a possibility for us tomorrow, I guess, is all we would say," Keefe said.

Nylander's status came into question on Friday when the forward didn't attend the club's last full practice before the opening game of their first-round series with the Boston Bruins. In his media availability that followed, Keefe said he was given a directive by Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving to not divulge any lineup updates or new, including updates on Nylander.

The Leafs played Game 1 without Nylander and lost 5-1 to the Bruins. Nylander was spotted the next day by TSN's Chris Johnston skating with the club's black aces while the rest of the team held team meetings at their hotel. Keefe held firm to his no-info policy until the morning of Game 2 when Nylander joined his teammates on the ice for their morning skate. It was pretty clear at the time the Leafs were not preparing to have Nylander in the lineup for Game 2 as he didn't take part in any of the line drills and he stayed out later than the players that were slated to compete.

Keefe broke from his lineup policy by saying Nylander "looked good out there" and that they'd see how he felt for Game 2. The 27-year-old Swede did not take part, but the Leafs defeated the Bruins 3-2 to even up their first-round series at 1-1.

It's not clear what Nylander's injury is as the Leafs do their best to hold their secrecy during the playoffs. He played in all 82 regular season games where he scored 40 goals and added 58 assists for a career-high 98 points. The player signed an eight-year, $92 million extension which kicks in on July 1.
