Nylander had a goal and an assist in the loss, but all the talk beforehand was about his commute to the game.
No matter how William Nylander shows up for work, he's always dressed in style.
The Toronto Maple Leafs forward was spotted riding the TTC subway by Instagram user @peaceandlovesports on Wednesday before his team's 6-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.
Nylander recorded a goal and an assist in the game to extend his Maple Leafs' franchise record season-opening point streak to 13 games.
The 27-year-old spoke after the game, but given the mood following the team's disappointing defensive effort, Nylander wasn't asked about his choice of commute to the game. Instead the focus was on Toronto's defensive laps that led to Ottawa's victory.
"We just got to tighten up and just play simple and get plays stopped," Nylander said. "I think we play pretty good defensively and then we have maybe one miscommunication or breakdown that leads to something."
Nylander's play was one of the few bright spots in Toronto's loss. His line drove much of Toronto's offence. An unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, Nylander is playing some of the best hockey of his career. His 18 points this season rank him second behind Auston Matthews for the team lead. He is five games away from moving into a tie for second for the team's points streak record. That mark was shattered by Mitch Marner last year when he broke the old mark of 18 games and ended his streak at 23.
