Young Fan Dresses As Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews Hockey Card-Inspired Halloween Costume

The fan, Grayson, is decked out in full Maple Leafs gear, complete with a makeshift mustache to mimic Auston Matthews' signature look.

Joseph Woll will finally make his season debut when the Toronto Maple Leafs host the St. Louis Blues, Fraser Minten takes the morning skate and Max Pacioretty remains out with a lower-body injury.

With Halloween just two days away, one young Toronto Maple Leafs fan is already turning heads with an impressive Auston Matthews Upper Deck hockey card-inspired costume. In a video circulating on social media, Grayson is seen fully outfitted in Maple Leafs gear, sporting a jersey, helmet, gloves, and even a makeshift mustache to complete the look of the team’s star center.

“Let’s go. Yeah, I love it. I hope I can show Auston Matthews. I want to show him in person,” the fan can be heard saying in the video.

The video, posted by grantjosephmusic on Instagram, has quickly gone viral, as the son and father duo garnered over one million views online with appearances on Breakfast Television, CTV, CBC News, and CP24 Breakfast. Grayson also received a message from Upper Deck to get the young fan some hockey cards to go with his Halloween costume.

The video, which originally blew up on TikTok, received comments from the Maple Leafs themselves, saying, “Unreal!!!!!!” The NHL reposted the video on TikTok before Matthews himself re-uploaded it on his Instagram story on Monday, with a fire emoji.

A similar style of costume has been done in other sports, the most recent version being Steph Curry in the NBA from Halloween 2023.

Whether or not Grayson gets to show Matthews in person remains to be seen with the club playing the Seattle Kraken in Toronto on Thursday. Regardless, his costume concept has made headlines and got the approval of the star forward.
