Mete was limited to 11 games with the Maple Leafs in just one season with the club.
Victor Mete has found a new home.
The puck-moving defenseman has signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Philadelphia Flyers worth $775,000 at the NHL level.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Mete's deal is worth $450,000 at the AHL level but has a minimum of $500,000 guaranteed.
Mete joined the Maple Leafs last year on a one-year, one-way contract and split his time up with the Leafs and AHL with the Toronto Marlies.
While up with the Maple Leafs, Mete sustained a lower-body injury that kept him out for the remainder of the regular season. He was healthy enough and back skating with the Maple Leafs during the playoffs if needed.
The 25-year-old became an unrestricted free agent for the second consecutive year after the Maple Leafs elected not to tender the 5-foot-9 defenseman a qualifying offer to retain his NHL playing rights.
Born in a Toronto suburb of Woodbridge and most recently residing in Kleinburg, Mete has two assists in 11 games with the Leafs this season and played in six games with the Marlies.
Mete joins a defense corps that includes Rasmus Ristolainen and Sean Walker. Top defenseman Travis Sanheim has been mentioned in several trade talks and Tony DeAngelo is reportedly on the move back to Carolina later this month. Depending on how things shake out, Mete may get more opportunity to play at the NHL level on a rebuilding team than he did in Toronto.
