When becoming President of Hockey Operations with Pittsburgh in June, Dubas initially said he'd re-evaluate things in the summer.
Kyle Dubas will hold two titles with the Pittsburgh Penguins this season.
The club announced that the former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager will not only be the President of Hockey Operations, but he will serve as the club's general manager through the 2023-24 season.
"At this time, I feel it is best for continuity that I formally continue in both roles as President and General Manager in the hockey operations department," Dubas said in a statement from the team. "We will continue to reevaluate the GM position alongside all others in future off-seasons, to ensure that we are optimizing all facets of the department."
Dubas was hired as the Penguins' new president of hockey operations on June 1, just weeks after he was dismissed as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 37-year-old executive said at the time that he would assume both roles until July 1 and revisit the situation when the contracts of other executives were set to expire.
Over a month has passed and ultimately Dubas elected to keep assuming both roles through the end of next season.
Dubas is set to take on his former team for the first time on Nov. 25 when the Penguins host the Maple Leafs. On Dec. 16, Dubas visits Scotiabank Arena for the first time since departing the Toronto organization.
Under Dubas, the Leafs compiled a record of 221-109-42 over his five seasons as GM. They made the playoffs in each of those five seasons. The club won its first playoff series in 19 years when they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games, before bowing out in five games to the Florida Panthers in the second round.
