Report: Flames to Seek Permission to Speak to Maple Leafs Assistant GM Brandon Pridham

Pridham serves as the team’s primary salary cap manager in addition to various other duties.

The Calgary Flames are continuing their search for a new general manager and appear to have their sights set on Toronto.

No, it's not Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas, who as of this writing does not have a contract beyond June 30th, but rather Leafs assistant general manager Brandon Pridham.

DailyFaceoff.com's Frank Seravalli reports that the Flames intend to seek permission to speak to Pridham about their vacancy. Although it's not clear yet if the Leafs will grant permission, it's seen as an unwritten rule to allow personnel to interview for positions if it results in a promotion.

There would be a bit of a double standard for the Flames if permission was granted. According to reports, the Flames aren't granting permission for anyone to talk to their ex-GM, Brad Treliving, until his contract expires at the end of June.

The Maple Leafs first hired Pridham in 2015 to help manage the team's salary cap. He excelled through the ranks to later serve as the AGM to Dubas. Before working with the Leafs, Pridham worked in the NHL as the league's salary-cap enforcer. His work has been essential for Toronto in maneuvering through all the salary-cap rules in order to put out an optimal roster.

Surely, Toronto could find a replacement to do the same things, but it's hard to think they'd find anyone who knows the ins and outs of the cap like Pridham.
