Doan is reportedly leaving the Arizona Coyotes organization where he served as the Chief Hockey Development Officer.

It looks like Brad Treliving's trip to Arizona included plucking someone from the Coyotes organization.

According to ESPN's Kevin Weekes, the Maple Leafs are adding Shane Doan as an assistant GM.

There had been rumblings about Doan possibly landing in Toronto for the last couple of weeks. Treliving and Doan have a relationship dating back to when Treliving served as an assistant GM with the Coyotes back when Doan dating back to 2003.

It was going to take a big opportunity for Doan to leave the organization. The Coyotes are expected to play next season at the 5000-seat Mullett Arena, but their future beyond that is uncertain after a recent vote on a new arena failed to pass.

As the Coyotes faced several challenges off the ice during Doan's tenure with the club, he remained a steadfast presence and a symbol of stability. He led the team through various ownership changes, financial difficulties, and even the threat of relocation in years past.

Doan spent 21 seasons as a player with the same organization and retired in 2017.
