Martin Jones is now in the mix as the Maple Leafs add to their goaltending depth. Conor Timmins will likely miss the start of the regular season as the Toronto Maple Leafs' defenseman will be out week-to-week with a significant lower-body injury. Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe updated the status of Timmins who was injured in a pre-season game against the Montreal Canadiens over the weekend. The defender had been off to a red-hot start scoring twice and adding four assists in three pre-season games before the recent setback. According to The Athletic's Joshua Kloke, Timmins was seen leaving Bell Centre in Montreal with a knee brace. The Maple Leafs acquired Timmins in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes last season. He scored twice and added 12 assists in 25 games with the Leafs in 2022-23. The club signed the 25-year-old to a two-year, $2.2 million contract in February. Should Timmins miss a long period of time, it's expected he would be placed on long-term injured reserve and his $1.1 million would be used to help the Leafs get under the salary cap in time for the start of the regular season. KLINGBERG UPDATE Defenseman John Klingberg remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury after he departed early Toronto's game against the Buffalo Sabres in St. Thomas, Ontario. "He's not going to skate for a little bit but we think he'll turn the corner pretty quickly," Keefe said of the Swedish defenseman. The Maple Leafs signed Klingberg to a one-year, $4.15 million contract in July. The 31-year-old had been skating in a defensive pair with Jake McCabe up until that point. For the time being, it looks like Timothy Liljegren will move up into the spot occupied by Klingberg.
