The Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman has struggled through his first 13 games of the season. Head coach Sheldon Keefe says the player is injured and working through some things. It appears there might be an update on Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg in the near future. The 31-year-old defenseman has appeared in 14 of Toronto's 17 games to start the season. Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe admitted [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/latest-news/its-certainly-getting-to-that-place-maple-leafs-concerned-john-klingbergs-injury-could-linger-for-a-while] while in Sweden for the NHL Global Series that is was concerning given how long Klingberg's injury has lingered. "It's certainly getting to that place," Keefe said. "With the time off they tried to use it with a little more aggressive treatment for him going forward. They still think some of that treatment will help him and pay off for him. It’s just taking longer for him to bounce back from it and just hasn’t been comfortable." While on The Jeff Marek show on Monday, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported that we could have some clarity on the defender's status soon. "I think there was a conversation about where are we going here," Friedman reported on Monday. "I would expect some clarity, whether it's a temporary absence or a longer one, I think we're going to get some clarity on that soon." The 31-year-old has had injuries throughout his career, including a double hip surgery back in 2015. However, he hasn't revealed what his current injury is with Toronto. Klingberg hasn't appeared in a game since the Maple Leafs' 5-2 win on November 11 vs. Vancouver. Klingberg signed a one-year deal with Toronto worth $4.15 million on July 1. He has the lowest xGF% (42.03) among defenseman on the Maple Leafs, according to NaturalStatTrick.com [https://www.naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20232024&thruseason=20232024&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=n&team=TOR&pos=D&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL].
