The Leafs don't have a lot of salary cap room and the ability to squeeze the player's $3.5 million total cap is already offset by the fact that the Montreal Canadiens are already retaining half of it in a deal with the Capitals this summer. The Leafs could get Edmundson's $1.75 cap hit reduced even further to $875,000 without the need for a third party. Edmundson is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season.
