The Coyotes lost 6-5 to the Flames on Sunday night as they now get ready for their season finale on Wednesday in what could be their last ever game in Arizona.

The Arizona Coyotes lost 6-5 to the Calgary Flames on Sunday night in what was a back and forth affair.

Going into this matchup, the Coyotes were riding high on a two-game winning streak despite all of the noise surrounding the team’s likely relocation to Salt Lake City.

Arizona jumped off to a quick 2-0 start with goals from Alexander Kerfoot and Matias Maccelli. The Flames responded with two goals of their own, but the Coyotes still escaped the first period with a 3-2 lead.

The second period really continued the theme of crazy hockey as there were another combined four goals

Dylan Guenther scored twice while Josh Doan also was able to bury the puck in the net, marking another great night for the Coyotes’ young forwards.

The Flames rallied back from a two-goal deficit and really found their game in the third period en route to a victory.

“It was not the way we wanted it, but I think we have been through some emotion and I think you could see tonight we were not as urgent as we have been,” coach André Tourigny said. “I think we had good execution, we made good plays with the puck. We did a lot of good stuff, but defensively we weren’t as stingy as we would have wished.”

It’s been a long five-game road trip for the Coyotes. The team found out about all of these rumors regarding relocation to Salt Lake City in the middle of the trip and were informed by general manager Bill Armstrong that these rumors were indeed true on Friday.

Tourigny is proud of the way that each player has handled all of this outside noise and their compete level even with so much turmoil going on.

“I think our guys have shown a lot of character in the last week,” Tourigny said. “We saw our last three games, really tight games… Really proud of them.”

The Coyotes will play their last game of the season on Wednesday night against the Edmonton Oilers at Mullett Arena, which could be their final game in Arizona before potentially relocating to Salt Lake City.
