
Connor Ingram was phenomenal, but the Arizona Coyotes still lost 3-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes capping off a brutal road trip.
Going into this game, the Coyotes suffered two consecutive losses to the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, both coming in the form of a blowout.
The Coyotes came into this game firing on all cylinders. Logan Cooley opened up the scoring and Arizona ended the first period with a 1-0 lead.
Based on their first 20 minutes of play, it seemed the Coyotes would finally be able to bounce and end this trip on a high note, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
For the remaining 40 minutes of the contest, the Hurricanes straight up dominated Arizona.
Martin Nečas tied the game early in the second period. Carolina looked as if they were in a different dimension compared to the Coyotes.
The Hurricanes continued to bombard Arizona with countless scoring chances, but to Ingram’s credit, he stood tall and kept the Coyotes hanging around.
Ingram continued to make save after save which kept the score tied at 1-1 for the majority of the third period.
Despite Ingram’s heroics, the Coyotes were not able to generate any sort of offense as they only took a whopping one shot throughout the final 20 minutes.
The Coyotes almost escaped the night with a point, but Dmitry Orlov scored with 35.9 seconds remaining to give Carolina the win.
Ingram’s 36-save performance was all for nothing as the rest of the Coyotes just completely left their goaltender out to dry.
For a team with playoff aspirations, this kind of performance is just unacceptable especially because of their prior games in Florida and Tampa Bay.
The Coyotes were unable to pick up a single point through this three-game road trip and they continue to lose ground in the Western Conference wild card race.
Now, Arizona is set to go on an 11-day break where they will have to do some major soul searching in order to get back on track.
