The Arizona Coyotes put their two consecutive defeats to bed as they beat the St. Louis Blues 6-2 in grand fashion.
Right out the gate, the Coyotes seemed like a totally new team. They were playing at an aggressive and fast pace that was just not seen on Friday night against the New York Islanders.
After the first period, Arizona found themselves up 1-0 from a Nick Bjugstad power play goal, but the real fun would begin in the second period.
Clayton Keller set the tone early in the period scoring his second goal of the season off a beautiful feel from Nick Schmaltz.
Trouble seemed like it was starting to brew when Jakub Vrana cut the Coyotes lead to 2-1 but it was Michael Carcone who responded just 43 seconds later getting Arizona right back on the board.
Forty minutes into the hockey game, the Coyotes had a commanding 4-1 lead and further established their dominance in the third period with goals from Jason Zucker and Sean Durzi.
This was a whole team effort. The offense, which was abysmal through the prior two games, caught fire as all four lines played their roles and each had their own identity in a way.
Defensively, the Coyotes had a strong game while goaltender Connor Ingram was fabulous once again. He produced 24 saves with a .923 SV% and prevented the Blues from mounting any sort of comeback.
Arizona’s power play finally came alive as the team scored three of its five goals on the man advantage.
Going into the season, it was clear that the first line of Keller, Barrett Hayton and Schmaltz are the heart and soul of the team and throughout this game, they made that point even more clear. All three forwards were all over the ice getting chance after chance and proved why they are a trio that should never be overlooked.
The Coyotes went 2-2 through their four game road trip to start the season. Not bad given the opponents they were forced to go up against.
Saturday afternoon marks the Coyotes home opener as they are set to face the Anaheim Ducks.
