The Arizona Coyotes couldn't handle the Dallas Stars’ firepower as they lost 5-2 on Wednesday night.
Going into this matchup, the Coyotes were on a two-game winning streak and playing some really solid hockey.
Clayton Keller’s goal actually gave Arizona a 1-0 lead after the first period and all seemed right for the underdogs.
In the second period, Dallas just completely took over. The Stars scored three goals in a matter of just a few short minutes which changed the whole dynamic of the game.
Jason Robertson and Craig Smith’s early third period goals essentially foiled any chances for the Coyotes to climb back into the contest.
The Stars are a really talented team that will capitalize on any little mistake from their opponents. Unfortunately, the Coyotes gave Dallas way too many chances and they just cashed in.
“I think in the second they had a push,” Coach Andre Tourigny said. “We turned over the puck too much. I think it’s a team that’s really good around the net and we gave them second opportunities. There is a reason why they are Stanley Cup contenders.”
While the Coyotes played well for portions of the night, the Stars are just so talented and explosive that it was hard for Arizona to keep up with their pace for the full 60 minutes.
The Coyotes will be back in action on Friday against the Seattle Kraken in what will be their first of a seven-game homestand.
