The Coyotes showed what they are truly made of as the team was able to overcome a three-goal deficit en route to a 7-4 victory against the Golden Knights.

The Arizona Coyotes scored six unanswered goals while rallying back from a three-goal deficit to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 7-4 on Friday night.

Through the first 20 minutes, the Coyotes dominated as they led 14-3 in shots while playing a speedy brand of hockey, but the score remained 0-0.

Michael Carcone opened up the scoring in the second period and all seemed right for the Coyotes. However, things would quickly go downhill.

The Golden Knights scored four straight goals to close out the period. Arizona trailed 4-1 and their play completely faltered from the opening frame.

Everything changed and madness ensued in the third period.

The Coyotes scored three goals in 1:07 apart from Josh Doan, Nick Bjugstad and Michael Carcone, the fastest three goals in team history which tied the game at 4-4.

At that point, Arizona had all of the momentum and they took full advantage. Carcone scored once again and 1:01 later, Josh Brown recorded a goal which essentially iced the game.

It looked as if the Coyotes were just going to roll over and let the Golden Knights win easily, but instead they were able to take over the content, showing perseverance and determination. It’s something that this Coyotes team is just made of.

“We know we are supposed to be the underdog in every game, so I think that gives you a little chip on your shoulder,” Brown said. “We want to play hard against those guys because that’s a measuring stick for us. I just think there is no quit in this team and that’s kind of how we need to keep going for the rest of the year.”

The Coyotes hit a new gear in the third period and completely outplayed the defending Stanley Cup champions. It was truly impressive and shows a lot about Arizona.

Coach

“We showed character,” coach André Tourigny said. “I think our guys showed they care a lot. We’ve had a lot of comebacks in the past and I think it’s good for us to make those comebacks.”

While their overall record may not necessarily may not be all that great, the Coyotes are a gritty team that just never gives up no matter what the score is.

They have had their up and down moments throughout this season, but when the Coyotes are at their best, it’s truly special to watch.

Arizona will be back in action on Sunday as they take on the San Jose Sharks.
