Josh Doan has embarked on a long journey to get to where he is today as one of the Arizona Coyotes top prospects.

There has been immense pressure on Arizona Coyotes prospect Josh Doan since the moment he first stepped on the ice.

Josh’s father, Shane Doan, was the captain of the Coyotes from 2003-2017 and is really a pioneer for hockey in the Valley.

Josh grew up in Arizona playing hockey and watching his father thrive as a member of the Coyotes.

When Josh started to pursue the sport as more than just a hobby, it seemed it would be difficult for him to create his own identity outside of his father’s name but he was able to do exactly that.

It was during the 2020-21 season in the United States Hockey League with the Chicago Steel where Josh truly broke out as he had 31 goals, 39 assists and 70 points in 53 games.

After his season with the Steel, Josh was drafted by the Coyotes in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft carrying on the legacy of his father.

Josh stayed in the Valley for college playing two seasons with Arizona State University. In his two years at ASU, Josh had 28 goals, 47 assists and 75 points. He was also named captain of the team during his second season showing the same leadership qualities that Shane possessed.

After his second season at ASU, Josh signed a three-year entry-level contract and made the jump to play professional hockey in March.

“It’s definitely something special, obviously. I’ve been repping this logo since I was zero,” Josh said after signing with the Coyotes. “So it feels pretty normal at this point. But it’s super exciting to be officially kind of a part of it.”

The 21-year-old forward played 14 games with Arizona’s AHL affiliate the Tucson Roadrunners posting three goals, three assists and six points. He is expected to play in Tucson again this upcoming season.

Josh has come a long way since watching his father in the NHL as a young boy and is now so close to becoming the second Doan in the family to put on the Coyotes sweater.
