The Coyotes lost 5-0 to the Kraken as Philipp Grubauer recorded 39 saves and a shutout.

The Arizona Coyotes lost 5-0 to the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night, largely due to the play of Philipp Grubauer who recorded his second shutout of the season.

Going into this game, the Coyotes were on a two-game win streak and really playing some fantastic hockey.

Just over two minutes into the contest, the Kraken got goals from Shane Wright and André Burakovsky, which gave them a commanding 2-0 lead early on.

Through the rest of the first and entirety of the second period, the Coyotes found their legs and were sustaining a lot of offensive zone time, but still couldn't get anything past Grubauer.

Despite having a 26-16 edge in shots, Arizona still trailed 3-0 after 40 minutes of game action.

In the third period, Seattle broke the game wide open with goals from Brandon Tanev and Will Borgen.

The story of the night was Grubauer. He made 39 saves en route to a shutout as he willed the Kraken to victory.

“It’s not easy,” coach André Tourigny said. “For us we need to learn from it. I think there are circumstances and distractions and you need to stay with it… Grubauer was solid.”

This is the first time the Coyotes got shutout since their 1-0 loss against the Islanders on October 17. For context, that was their third game of the season, so it’s been a while.

The Coyotes will play Wednesday night against the Vancouver Canucks in what will be a quick turnaround.
