Here is what it will take for the Arizona Coyotes to defeat the New York Rangers tonight in The Big Apple.

The Arizona Coyotes head over to The Big Apple later today to take on the New York Rangers in what will be their second game of the season.

What will it take for the Coyotes to defeat the Rangers and get to 2-0 on the year?

Contain Chris Krieder:

To start the 2023-24 season, Rangers forward Chris Krieder has already been on an absolute tear.

Through the team’s first two games, Krieder has already tallied three goals, one assist and four points.

If the Coyotes are to win this game, containing and slowing down Krieder must be their top priority.

There is no simple way of doing this but the Coyotes must figure out something before Krieder makes them his next victim.

Convert on Power Play:

Two of the three Coyotes goals in regulation against the New Jersey Devils on Friday night came on the power play.

Arizona’s man-advantage led by Sean Durzi, Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, Logan Cooley and Barrett Hayton, seemed to be clicking all of the cylinders which was a huge reason for the team’s 4-3 victory.

The Rangers have a talented team with multiple star caliber players including Adam Fox, Krieder, Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad so taking advantage while on the power play will be critical for Arizona as all these players are dominant in a five-on-five setting.

Stay out of Penalty box:

Overall, the Coyotes had a great opening night game on Friday but their one weakness was staying disciplined.

Arizona committed five penalties in the second period alone which led to three unanswered goals by the Devils as they were able to climb back in the game.

To many people’s surprise, the Coyotes looked great five-on-five against a speedy New jersey team but they just couldn’t stay out of the box which has to be frustrating for coach André Tourigny.

Similar to the Devils, New York has a lot of playmakers on the power play so the Coyotes can’t let them get many opportunities or else goaltender Connor Ingram may have a tough night.
