The Utah Hockey Club came out with much more urgency and desperation against the Los Angeles Kings.
It still turned into the same result.
Once again buried by a multiple-goal deficit, the club couldn't find a way back in a 3-2 loss to the Kings Saturday afternoon at Crypto.com Arena, marking Utah's third consecutive defeat and fifth in the last six games.
"That was a hell of a hockey game," head coach Andre Tourigny said. "We played hard both sides of the puck, and it was a one-shot game."
Utah (4-4-1) got goals from Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley, just the second multi-goal game for the club's offence in the last six games, but couldn't find the equalizer late on despite several good looks.
The team also got a boost from the return of Nick Bjugstad to the lineup for the first time this season, and new line combinations that gave Utah much-needed life after its horrid last two showings.
In the end, Los Angeles (5-2-2) converted on their chances when it counted, especially on a day where Tourigny said the defence played much better at closing down the slot.
"It's a day off tomorrow; I think we earned it," he said. "I like the way the guys fought. It's not the result we wanted, but it's a good league. It's frustrating."
