As the defensemen market is shrinking, teams' interest on former Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun has reportedly gone up.

The market for defensemen is changing just days before the NHL Trade Deadline.
Despite some conflicting reports, trade rumors regarding former Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun are picking up steam.
“I’m sensing with the D market quickly shrinking action around Jakob Chychrun has picked up,” TSN’s Darren Dreger tweeted. “Doesn’t mean there’s a deal to be made, but teams are likely thinking at least two playoff runs with him may be worth the asking price.”
It was just a few days ago that Dreger said that it is ‘unlikely’ that the Ottawa Senators move Chychrun before Friday’s trade deadline.
However, it’s worth noting that in Dreger’s recent tweet there was no sign that the Senators are interested in trading Chychrun, but with the defensemen market drastically changing, contending teams are likely more interested in inquiring about his availability.
At just 25-years-old, Chychrun can be valuable and as Dreger noted he is more than just a rental type player especially since he has another year on his contract after this one.
Chychrun played 373 games in Arizona where he tallied 60 goals 110 assists and 170 points before being traded on March 1, 2023 to the Senators in a deal that included multiple draft picks.
In 58 games this year, Chychrun has nine goals, 22 assists and 31 points. He also averages 22:34 minutes of ice time per game.
The Senators are likely to miss the playoffs which is probably why there is so much noise surrounding a potential Chychrun trade, true or not true.
