Barrett Hayton is expected to be out longer than originally anticipated for the Coyotes with a lower-body injury.
Arizona Coyotes forward Barrett Hayton is expected to miss some time with a lower-body injury.
Hayton’s injury was originally listed as just day-to-day, but coach André Tourigny provided an update regarding his status following the Coyotes’ 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night.
“He is back in Phoenix now,” Tourigny said. “He will have more exams, but he will miss some time. It’s not a day-to-day injury. It will be longer than that.”
Hayton appeared to suffer this mysterious injury during Arizona’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.
In Hayton’s absence, the Coyotes called up forward John Leonard from the Tucson Roadrunners who played on Tuesday night.
Through 33 games, Hayton has three goals, seven assists and 10 points.
It’s really been a tough season for Hayton as he has already missed over two months with an upper-body injury and really can’t seem to catch a break.
The 23-year-old center is a valuable part of this Coyotes team. He plays first line minutes while serving a key role on both the power play and penalty kill.
It’s still unclear how much time Hayton will miss and what exact injury he sustained, but it’s safe to say we won’t see him for a while.
