Brandon Montour: A Stanley Cup Winner And Utah Free Agent Target

Coming off a Stanley Cup victory over the pesky Edmonton Oilers, the star defenceman now has a big payday looming.

The price tag may have just risen to keep Brandon Montour in the Sunshine State.

After the Florida Panthers scrapped and clawed to a 2-1 win in an epic Game 7 battle to finally put away the never-say-die Edmonton Oilers Monday night, the 30-year old raised the most coveted trophy in sports over his head.

And so started the questions of where he may go next season.

The former second-round pick of Anaheim in 2014 from UMass, Montour has turned himself into one of the best defencemen in the league.

He was traded to Florida from Buffalo in 2021 and soon erupted, totaling 11 goals and 37 points in his first full season with the Cats.

Montour proved to be even better on the man advantage, piling 33 points on the power play in 2022-23, and totaling 17 more this season, adding 11 more points in the playoffs.

If Utah can swing a deal with the Brantford, Ontario, native this off-season, it would give a solid piece for them to build their defence around, and would give the club a quarterback on the power play.

No doubt Montour will be a hot ticket this off-season, and we'll need to stay tuned in to see if Utah will make a move for him.
