The Utah Mammoth have made one of the biggest moves of their offseason, adding an established two-way center to their lineup.
According to ESPN's Emily Kaplan, Utah is finalizing a trade with the New York Rangers that will bring veteran center Vincent Trocheck to the Mammoth. In exchange, the Rangers will receive defenseman Sean Durzi, top prospect Cole Beaudoin, and a third-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft.
The 32-year-old Trocheck arrives in Utah with a reputation as one of the NHL's premier defensive centers while still providing consistent offensive production. He recorded 53 points and 193 hits in 67 games last season and remains one of the league's most reliable penalty killers. His defensive impact was on full display at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where he helped anchor Team USA's penalty kill during its gold-medal run.
Utah is acquiring a player who remains under contract for three more seasons at an annual cap hit of $5.625 million, a deal widely viewed as one of the better values for a veteran center capable of handling top-six minutes in all situations.
The trade also marks the end of Sean Durzi's tenure in Utah after just one full season with the organization. The 27-year-old defenseman was signed to a four-year, $24 million contract in 2024 and had been expected to play a significant role on Utah's blue line moving forward.
In addition to Durzi, the Mammoth are parting with one of the organization's top young forwards in Cole Beaudoin. Selected in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, Beaudoin enjoyed a breakout season with the OHL's Barrie Colts, piling up 88 points in 54 regular-season games before adding another 29 points in 15 playoff contests.
Trocheck's name had surfaced in trade speculation for months. New York had reportedly been exploring a move dating back to last season, and the veteran even changed agents earlier this summer in an effort to help facilitate a trade. While Trocheck initially preferred to remain on the East Coast for family reasons, ESPN reported that he ultimately agreed to the move to Utah after holding limited trade protection.
For Utah, the deal signals a clear commitment to accelerating the organization's climb in the Western Conference. Trocheck brings playoff experience, leadership, faceoff ability, and a proven defensive presence down the middle—qualities that should immediately strengthen the Mammoth's lineup as they continue building toward postseason contention.
The trade cannot become official until it is formally announced by the clubs.
