The 34-year old, two-time Stanley Cup winner remains unsigned nearly two weeks into an active free agency period.

At this point of free agency, it's all about tying up the loose ends of the string. Many teams have filled big needs with big names, including the Utah Hockey Club.

One of those loose ends that remain is defenceman Justin Schultz, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins and formerly of the Seattle Kraken.

Drafted originally by the Anaheim Ducks in 2008, he landed his first NHL contract with the Edmonton Oilers following his junior season at the University of Wisconsin.

He would go on to 27 points his rookie year, finishing seventh in Calder Trophy voting, then followed it up with 33 more in his first full 82-game season the next year.

Schultz was then traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016, becoming one of the final pieces to Mike Sullivan's championship puzzle that would net back-to-back Stanley Cups, much like how current Utah blue-liner Mikhail Sergachev did for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After leaving Pittsburgh as a free agent, he had a short two-year stint with the Washington Capitals before moving cross-country to join Seattle, also as a free agent.

Schultz would add a third Stanley Cup winner to the roster, and the second former Pittsburgh Penguin, joining his old teammate, Ian Cole.

It would also boost the veteran presence on the team to help them get into meaningful situations involving playoff berths, something general manager Bill Armstrong has preached all off-season long.
