The Arizona Coyotes may not be playing meaningful hockey at the moment but their top-notch prospect, right winger Dylan Guenther is.
Guenther is set to play in the Memorial Cup Final on Sunday for the Western Hockey League’s Seattle Thunderbirds.
In four Memorial Cup games, Guenther has a total of four assists including two in last night's 4-1 semifinal victory over the Peterborough Petes.
Seattle is loaded with other highly touted prospects to go along with Guenther including Brad Lambert and Reid Schaefer.
It should be a positive sign for all Coyotes’ fans to be seeing Guenther compete against some of the best premiere young talent the world has to offer as he continues to develop, preparing to cement his spot in the NHL next season.
Guenther, Arizona’s ninth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, started the 2022-23 campaign with the Coyotes playing 33 games with the team tallying six goals, nine assists and 15 points. Following his short stint with the Coyotes, he went on to play for Team Canada in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship where he sealed the gold-medal for Canada with an overtime goal against Czechia.
On January 10, Guenther was acquired by the Thunderbirds. Through his short time in the WHL so far, the 20-year-old has already helped Seattle win the Ed Chynoweth Cup with his 16 goals, 12 assists and 28 points in the 2023 playoffs.
The Thunderbirds will be playing the Quebec Remparts in the Memorial Cup Final tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. PT. Seattle will need a big performance out of Guenther if they are to secure a victory and hoist the Memorial Cup.
