The Arizona Coyotes and coach André Tourigny are reportedly close on a new contract extension.
According to PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan, the Coyotes and Tourigny have agreed on the term and dollar of the contract but the holdup is to ensure the assistant coaches which include John Madden and Mario Duhamel and Corey Schwab all get extensions.
Morgan also reported that he expects a deal to be done between Arizona and Tourigny before the team’s preseason opener in Melbourne, Australia on Sept. 22.
The 49-year-old has a 53-90-21 record over his two seasons as coach of the Coyotes. However, he was thrust into a rebuilding situation from the gecko and has really made the most of it.
Tourigny has helped propel the potential of multiple young players including Clayton Keller, Barrett Hayton, Matias Maccelli and J.J. Moser.
Going into his third season in Arizona, Tourigny now will have his best opportunity to make some noise in the Western Conference after the team acquired players like Jason Zucker, Sean Durzi, Matt Dumba, Alexander Kerfoot and Nick Bjugstad this offseason.
This contract extension and upcoming season could be a major turning point in Tourigny’s career in further establishing himself as one of the premier coaches in the NHL.
