According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Arizona Coyotes are preparing for the possibility of a move to Salt Lake, Utah as soon as April 18.
Friedman reported that one member of the Coyotes indicated that there is expected to be a meeting to discuss the future of the franchise before everyone goes their separate ways for the off-season.
The Coyotes and Smith Entertainment Group have reportedly made significant and meaningful progress on the relocation to Salt Lake City per Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.
NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly came out with a statement providing very little clarity about the situation at hand.
“The League is continuing to work on a solution to what has been a challenging and difficult situation. But we are not in a position to comment beyond that,” Daly said via TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.
Despite the Coyotes announcing their commitment to winning an auction for land in northeast Phoenix taking place on June 27, Friedman added that concerns regarding the outcome if Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo lost the auction and the scenario of three more years at Mullett Arena led to this course of action.
The Coyotes are still yet to make any sort of statement to address these reports.
