The Arizona Coyotes are reportedly signing defenseman Travis Dermott to a one-year, two-way contract.
The 26-year-old defenseman has played a total of six seasons in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks tallying 14 goals, 41 assists and 55 points.
Dermott only played 11 games this past season after suffering a concussion during the pre-season and then less than a month into his return , he continued to suffer from concussion-like symptoms and was shut down for the remainder of the year in January.
This is a low-risk move for the Coyotes as Dermott could be an effective bottom-pair defenseman if he stays healthy. It's a big If on Dermott’s health as he has only played 28 games in the NHL over the past two seasons.
Dermott could be with the team during training camp fighting for a roster spot. Even if he does not make the team, Dermott would serve as a good depth piece if another defenseman in the lineup were to get injured.
