The Arizona Coyotes plans for a future home continues to be a looming question heading into the 2023-24 season.
While that question is yet to be answered completely, Coyotes president and CEO Xavier Gutierrez hinted that the organization do have some plans in the works.
“There's a lot of work going on,” Gutierrez said via PHNX Coyotes. “I've made very clear that we have multiple sites that we are working, it takes multiple aspects in order to get a over $2 billion privately funded project together, it takes the identification of the land, the structuring of how all the sales tax and all the economic impact that we're working on and ultimately, how do we develop this without trying to put it into a public vote in order to try to expedite this?
“We are very focused on this. This is priority number one. We were obviously very disappointed with the vote in Tempe but we immediately started working on multiple options and so we think there's gonna be some more for public announcements very soon about other options that we're working on and we've been transparent. We're looking at multiple options in order to see how we get to the finish line as quickly as possible.”
The Coyotes planned to build a sports and entertainment district in Tempe but the proposal was rejected in a special election vote putting the Coyotes future in limbo.
Both the Coyotes organization as well as the NHL have made it clear that they are committed to finding a permanent arena solution in the Valley.
It was reported last month that Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo executed a letter of intent to purchase a parcel of land in northwest Mesa to potentially build a new sports arena and entertainment district for the franchise.
Arizona plans to play at Mullett Arena for the second straight season as the organization still navigates future plans.
