The Arizona Coyotes make their first splash in free agency signing left winger Jason Zucker to a one-year $5.3 million contract.

The Arizona Coyotes have signed left winger Jason Zucker to a one-year $5.3 million contract according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

The 31-year-old forward had 27 goals, 21 assists and 48 points for the Pittsburgh Penguins this past season.

Zucker was drafted in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft and has played a total of 628 games in his career for the Minnesota Wild and Penguins where he has 182 goals, 156 assists and 338 points.

The addition of Zucker will provide Arizona with a reliable top-six forward and definitely assist them in the goalscoring department.

Zucker should be able to help mentor the younger players on the team including Clayton Keller, Barrett Hayton and Matias Maccelli while also making the Coyotes a more competitive team come next season.

This Zucker signing is another step in the right direction for an Arizona franchise that seems to be taking a huge jump in their rebuild.
