The Arizona Coyotes came away with a 2-1 victory against the Anaheim Ducks in their home opener but it was not all sunshine and roses.
Both forwards Jason Zucker and Michael Carcone left the game early with injuries and did not return.
Carcone was listed with an upper-body injury after getting hit during the first period where he was seen shaken up before exiting to the locker room.
Zucker’s incident was not seen visibly by the public but he was listed with a lower-body injury and it was announced before the start of the third that he would not return to the game.
Prior to his injury, Zucker scored a power play goal in the first period which marked his second of the year.
Following the game Saturday afternoon, coach André Tourigny did not give much information regarding these two injuries as he is still waiting to see the severity of them.
“It’s a lower-body for Zucker and an upper-body for Carcone, but we don’t know yet what is the extent of the injury,” Tourigny said postgame.
Zucker played a valuable role for the Coyotes slotting on a line with Logan Cooley and Matias Maccelli while Carcone has fit in well with Nick Bjugstad and Lawson Crouse.
If one of these forwards are unable to go for Arizona’s next game on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Kings, Travis Boyd is a likely candidate to fill in.
It's unclear whether the Coyotes will need to call up players from their AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners.
