On the night of the Upper Deck NHL Draft, the first phone call Tij Iginla got wasn't from a family member.
It came from one of those who was closest to him while he was on the ice.
That would be Utah forward Dylan Guenther, who was teammates with Iginla, the no. 6 overall pick in this year's draft, in the Western Hockey League.
And while Guenther shared his own advice for Iginla and the other soon-to-be draft picks on that Friday night in Salt Lake, he made sure the forward knew how excited he was to have him on his same team.
While we know at least Iginla has a shot to be in the NHL as soon as opening night against Chicago on October 8, Guenther's name should not be sneezed at either.
The 21-year-old arguably had a breakout season last year with 35 points in 45 games, including 18 goals, with four of them game-winners.
And because he's been around Iginla for a season, Guenther probably knows Iginla's style as well as anyone.
(Not to mention Josh Doan made a ringing endorsement of Guenther last year, along with Doan endorsing Iginla.)
Iginla being signed to that entry-level deal should show you just how much general manager Bill Armstrong trusts in his draft pick and how excited he is for Iginla's future.
It also helps Tij is ready for the spotlight to shine on him when it comes, too.
With such a storyline like this in play, it's no wonder eyes will be drawn to Guenther and Iginla, among others, as part of the core of the future.
