This season is a big one for Arizona Coyotes forward Dylan Guenther.
The Coyotes selected Guenther with the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He got his first opportunity to play in the NHL this past season where he had six goals, nine assists and 15 points in 33 games which Guenther feels ultimately helped his development.
“I think it adds that level of comfortability, familiarity with a lot of the players and builds a relationship with the players and the coaches to see what you're working with you to get better at,”
Following his short 33-game stint with the Coyotes, the 20-year-old played at the World Junior Championship where he scored the game winning goal against Czechia propelling Canada to a gold medal victory.
Guenther also played 20 games in the WHL with the Seattle Thunderbirds tallying 13 goals 16 assists and 29 points. It was in the playoffs where Guenther really flashed his potential scoring 16 goals to go along with 12 assists and 28 points in 19 games.
“I think it's good,” Guenther said of his experience playing in big games. “I’m still really young but I’ve played in the playoffs multiple times, going on deep runs. Those games when the game is on the line, it could cost you your season so I think it's important to go through that,”
The young forward is trying to carve out a full-time role with the Coyotes this season. He feels that his strong offensive abilities will help him in the NHL.
“I’m just a good well-rounded forward,” Guenther said. “My best asset is my offensive instincts and my ability to score while trying to find open ice. I think my game has matured over the last two years defensively and being on the right side of the puck and having a good stick.”
For Coyotes fans unfamiliar with Guenther, remember his name as he has the potential to be an extremely impactful player for Arizona long into the future.
