Former Arizona Coyotes Captain Shane Doan has officially been hired by the Toronto Maple leafs as an assistant GM ending his tenure with the Coyotes

The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to hire former Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan to the front office as an assistant GM under Brad Treliving according to ESPN’s Kevin Weeks.

Doan played with the Coyotes from the franchise's first days back in 1995 until he retired in 2017. In 2021, Doan took a job in the Coyotes’ front office as the Chief Hockey Development Officer.

Doan’s relationship with Treliving dates back to 2003 when Treliving served as an assistant GM for the Coyotes. Treliving was hired by Toronto to be the GM on May 31 and clearly is using his past connections to assemble the best possible front office team.

As part of the Maple Leafs organization, Doan will also now work directly with Toronto’s superstar centerman and Arizona native Auston Matthews who credits Doan and the Coyotes for sparking his love for hockey.

Doan has meant so much to the Arizona community. He is the face for the game of hockey in the Valley and has put a tremendous amount of effort to help grow the sport.

Despite going into a different career direction, Doan will always be a member of Arizona’s hockey family.
