The Boston College forward was at his best against many teams, but probably none better than Utah.
Our tributes to the man known as Johnny Hockey continue here, as the hockey world continues to mourn his loss last Friday morning.
But today, we dive deeper into just how good he was against the Utah Hockey Club (formerly the Arizona Coyotes).
Gaudreau had 743 points in just 763(!) games in his career, including 243 goals, with 12 of them coming against the Arizona Coyotes.
His first goal against the Yotes (Utah) came on November 29, 2014, part of a multiple-point game with a +2 rating that night. That was only one part of an 80-game rookie season that Gaudreau put up 24 goals and 40 assists.
In the end, Johnny Hockey had 12 goals and 20 assists against Utah in just 31 games against the team.
One can only wonder what could've been this season; Gaudreau was supposed to face Utah for the first time at the Delta Center on January 31, 2025, and it would have been awesome as a fan to see him go up against Clayton Keller, a fellow USA Hockey alumnus, in-person.
But with his untimely death on Friday, we can only do just that and wonder what should have been.
And you now also wonder if it's destiny that his former teams, Calgary and Columbus, may been on a dark horse collision course for the Stanley Cup Final.
Wouldn't that be something?
