The Olympic Cauldron was lit high above the city of Paris Friday night in a spectacular opening ceremony for the ages.
It brought together athletes of all generations and showcased past and present, but also a look to the future.
The Utah Hockey Club has been showing off their glimpses of the future as well, with several high-profile prospects making a statement at prospect camp, like Daniil But, Cole Beaudoin, and Tij Iginla.
Speaking of the younger Iginla, we want to point out his father, Jarome, played in three Olympic Games for Canada, winning gold medals in 2002 and 2010.
It begs the question on if Tij Iginla could be a part of Canada's hockey team in 2034.
Iginla will be close to his late 30s by then, but he will no doubt have some serious NHL experience under his belt.
And why even wait until 2034? If Iginla has a good couple of years, he may find himself on the 2030 team in the French Alps, or even sooner at Milano-Cortina 2026.
Jarome Iginla was a major factor in the Canadians ending their 50-year gold medal drought at Salt Lake 2002; he was fourth on the team in total points, behind Steve Yzerman and Mario Lemieux (6 each) and one Joe Sakic (7 points).
Oh, and he also led the 2010 Games with 5 goals and assisted on that golden goal by Sidney Crosby.
It might just be in the genes for Tij to follow in his dad's footsteps to the Olympics, but until then, we'll sit back and enjoy the growth of the no. 6 overall pick to see what's next.
