The recent feats of the Utah HC forward on the water got me thinking about a possible cross-sport crossover.

It's the biggest weekend of the Olympics where 51 gold medals are up for grabs, including for some of Team USA's biggest names.

(As of the writing of this article, gymnastics legend Simone Biles claimed one of those golds in the vault.)

Earlier in the week, U.S. rowing claimed the gold medal in men's four, the first such medal of any kind in the event since 1960.

And earlier in the week, Utah Hockey Club forward Josh Doan posted this on his story on the water.

We know surfing is also a part of the Olympic ledger, too; both sports will be a part of Los Angeles 2028, as it has been since Tokyo 2021.

It got me thinking, could Doan ever try his hand at one or both of rowing or surfing?

It's already been discussed if Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen could be a hockey player, and we've wondered if Mikhail Sergachev would play soccer after spotting him at a Spartak Moscow match.

It certainly is possible on all fronts!

I mean, Doan is not only wakeboarding, but he's doing so with two kids draped all over him, and as a kid from Hawaii, I know how much core strength is required when you're surfing.

I also love rowing too since it requires plenty of cardio and endurance in addition to lower-body and core strength.

And I would say he's at least got a chance to be on the podium if the NHL ever held an Olympics-style competition in those kinds of water sports, since a lot of the players do wakeboard, among other things, in the off-season.
