Maple Leafs surged in the third, overcoming an early Mammoth lead. Utah's comeback attempt falls short on the road.

Last night, the Utah Mammoth faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night in a losing effort.

The game kicked off and the Mammoth jumped out to a lead in the first period and held it until the second. But after that, the Maple Leafs took over the game and Utah couldn't match the effort, leading to them dropping their third game in four nights.

The Maple Leafs rattled off two goals in the second to take a 2-1 lead. But Utah's Mikhail Sergachev was able to tie it up late in the second.

Unfortunately, that lead didn't last too long as the Maple Leafs would go on to score three in the third, including an empty net. Dylan Guenther added one with a minute left, but they couldn't complete the comeback and lost 5-3 on the road.

After the game, head coach Andre Tourigny spoke about his team's effort.

“We didn’t play our best game, execution was very difficult, we were there until somewhere in the third, but obviously, that’s not the way we want to play. We could not make a play, could not execute, our puck touch was not good, I think it was extremely tough for us to connect a few plays in a row.”

He also spoke about Dmitri Simashev scoring his first NHL point on the Sergachev second period goal.

“Obviously, they turned it over, he picks it up, he's in the right spot, finds me and I see that there's two or three guys skating by the goalie and I just send one along the ice and it goes in,” Sergachev said of the goal. “I'm happy for (Simashev). He's a great player and going to have a lot more points coming in.”

After losing against the Maple Leafs last night, the Mammoth will continue their Eastern road trip with games against the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 8th and Ottawa Senators on Nov. 9th.
