The Mammoth fell 4-2 to the Rangers after a rough third period, while Vincent Trocheck left the game with a lower-body injury.
The Utah Mammoth couldn't finish off a game they had in their hands Sunday.
Utah was tied 1-1 with the New York Rangers after two periods, but three goals in the third sent the Mammoth to a 4-2 loss at Madison Square Garden.
Gabe Perreault broke the tie just 3:15 into the final period. Mika Zibanejad and Alexis Lafreniere created a 2-on-1, and Karel Vejmelka stopped Lafreniere's shot. Perreault picked up the rebound and put it in.
New York made it 3-1 later in the period. Vladislav Gavrikov's shot from the point hit J.T. Miller and changed direction before finding the net.
Utah answered with just over five minutes left.
Andrew Peeke beat Igor Shesterkin from the right faceoff circle, cutting the Rangers' lead to 3-2. The Mammoth pulled Vejmelka for the extra attacker, but couldn't get the tying goal.
Instead, Eeli Tolvanen scored into the empty net with 1:15 left.
Utah had a better start to the game.
Nick Schmaltz opened the scoring on the power play at 14:29 of the first period. It was his fourth goal in three games.
The Rangers tied it late in the opening period when Gavrikov's shot from the blue line got through and beat Vejmelka.
Neither team scored in the second period, sending the game into the third tied at one.
Vejmelka finished with 18 saves, while Shesterkin stopped 28 for New York.
The Mammoth were playing the second half of a back-to-back after beating Columbus on Saturday. They still had a chance to win in New York, but the Rangers took control in the third and Utah couldn't answer.
Utah is now 2-1-0 on the season.
The Mammoth also lost forward Vincent Trocheck in the first period with a lower-body injury. He did not return.
Utah is in the midst of a back-to-back. They take on the New Jersey Devils at 5 p.m. local time.
