The Utah Mammoth have traded forward JJ Peterka to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a pair of first-round picks, signaling a major investment in the franchise's future.
The Boston Bruins made one of the biggest splashes of the offseason on Friday, betting on youth and upside by acquiring dynamic forward JJ Peterka in a deal that could have significant implications for the franchise's future.
Boston announced it has acquired the 24-year-old winger from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for its 2026 first-round pick (23rd overall) and Florida's 2028 first-round selection. If that Florida pick lands inside the top 10 following the 2028 NHL Draft Lottery, the Bruins will instead have the option of sending their own unprotected 2029 first-round pick.
The move gives Boston a proven top-six forward entering his prime and addresses one of the organization's biggest needs after an inconsistent offensive season.
Peterka suited up in all 82 games for Utah during the 2025-26 campaign, recording 25 goals and 22 assists for 47 points. While his production dipped from the previous season, he had already established himself as one of the league's more dangerous young scoring wingers.
During the 2024-25 season with the Buffalo Sabres, Peterka enjoyed a breakout year, setting career highs with 27 goals, 41 assists and 68 points. A year earlier, he scored a career-best 28 goals while adding 22 assists for 50 points, showing his ability to consistently generate offense.
Since making his NHL debut, Peterka has appeared in 320 career games between Buffalo and Utah, totaling 92 goals and 105 assists for 197 points.
His success hasn't been limited to the NHL.
Peterka represented Germany at the 2026 Winter Olympics, finishing with one goal and three assists in five games. He has also worn his country's colors at three IIHF World Championships and two World Junior Championships, highlighted by an outstanding performance at the 2023 World Championship. He was named the tournament's Best Forward and earned an All-Star Team selection after helping Germany capture the silver medal.
Originally selected by Buffalo in the second round (34th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, Peterka has steadily developed into a reliable offensive weapon. Now, he'll be counted on to play a major role as the Bruins look to build a younger, faster lineup capable of returning to Stanley Cup contention.
