Fans question the Utah Mammoth's decision to recall veteran Kevin Rooney over promising rookie Daniil But, who is dominating in the AHL.

Yesterday, the Utah Mammoth called up forward Kevin Rooney from the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL).

This is the second time that he has been called up to the NHL roster, since he signed with the club. However, this second call up, has left the members of the fan base a bit confused.

It appears that most of the fan base would like the Mammoth to give Daniil But a chance at the NHL level, rather than calling up Rooney.

But, 20, has been tearing it up in the AHL this season with the Roadrunners. In 14 games, he has scored seven goals and six assists for 13 points. That is tied for first on the team with Cameron Hebig, who could also be called up over Rooney.

As for Rooney, he has been an NHL veteran for nine seasons. This season in the AHL, he has scored three goals and an assist for four points in six games.

Hopefully it isn't too much longer before Mammoth fans get to see the debut of But. He is a talented player and it may just simple be that the organization wants him to get some playing time in the AHL, while playing top minutes before making the jump. Nevertheless, the fans are anxious to see him in an Utah sweater.
