The two prospects stepped onto the ice for the first time since July in Park City in advance of the Rookie Face-Off this weekend.

Any time a player sets foot in camp, it's an opportunity to prove themselves.

That's what Utah HC rookies Cole Beaudoin and Maveric Lamoureux have as the club officially opened training camp Wednesday with rookie camp at the renovated Olympic Oval in Kearns.

It means a little bit more to Lamoureaux, who said he's excited to return to playing again after surgeries on both shoulders sidelined him most of the last two years.

He and Beaudoin will get their chances in new digs, as the rookies were surrounded by the construction of the temporary office buildings for the club, which are expected to be completed soon.

"It's really good to see Utah is making a big step," Beaudoin said. "Looking at that rink (at the Oval) reminds me of an outdoor rink; it's pretty sweet."

The no. 24 overall pick in June's draft added while he's only been at practice a few times with the rookies, he's using it as a chance to learn once again from his peers -- both on- and off-ice, another step in fostering the team and fan culture.

"Everyone's happy to have us here," Lamoureaux said. "As players, it makes us feel welcome; I can't wait to put that jersey on and start playing games."
