Utah Mammoth fans were left anxiously awaiting answers after prized prospect Caleb Desnoyers exited Team Canada’s Summer Showcase finale with an apparent leg injury following a frightening collision.
One of the top prospects in hockey gave Utah Mammoth fans a frightening moment on Tuesday night.
Late in Team Canada’s final game of the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, Caleb Desnoyers went down with what appeared to be a potentially significant leg injury, leaving the ice in visible discomfort and creating immediate concern about the status of one of the organization’s most important young forwards.
The injury occurred with just over seven minutes remaining in the third period as Canada was killing a penalty in a game that had already slipped away, with the United States holding a commanding 7-2 lead.
Stationed near the slot while defending, Desnoyers never saw the collision coming. An American skater appeared to lose an edge at full speed before crashing directly into him, sending both players tumbling to the ice.
The awkward sequence left Desnoyers’ left leg trapped underneath the falling player, causing it to buckle in an unnatural fashion. He immediately showed signs of pain as play came to a halt.
After remaining on the ice briefly, Desnoyers was able to get to his feet but slowly made his way off the ice and headed straight to the dressing room. He did not return for the remainder of the game.
Following the contest, Team Canada head coach Misha Donskov acknowledged the scary moment but said he had not yet received any information on Desnoyers’ condition.
“You never want to see something like that,” Donskov said. “I haven’t gotten a medical update on him yet but hopefully he’s OK.”
While there has been no indication of the severity of the injury, the play immediately raised concern given how awkwardly Desnoyers’ leg was caught beneath the falling American player. With the game already well out of reach, there was little reason to risk sending him back onto the ice.
The Mammoth—and Canadian hockey fans alike—will now wait anxiously for an official update, hoping the injury proves to be far less serious than it initially appeared.
