Utah Hockey Club general manager Bill Armstrong wants to build a team that is big, physical, and skilled.
A deep prospect pool, now headed by some big names like Tij Iginla, Cole Beaudoin, and Dmitry Simashev, among others, certainly fits the bill.
But one of the biggest targets is one you haven't seen yet.
That would be Maveric Lamoureux, a 6-foot-6, nearly 200-pound giant from Laval, Quebec, drafted 29th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft.
He's coming off his second shoulder surgery in less than a year, and while he said at the post-draft press conference in Salt Lake on June 30 that he's not quite 100%, he's definitely getting there.
Lamoureux took a big step towards being full-strength when he skated in the first session of day two of prospect development camp in Park City; he still took time to chat it up with the training staff and coaching staff when he wasn't on the ice.
This kid breathes and lives hockey; you can see it from the way he carries himself, and he's just itching to get back on the ice.
He's made that known by being one of the best two-way defencemen for the Drummondville Voltigeurs the past three years.
Lamoureux put up 24 points in 54 games in his breakout year in 2021-22, and had a career-high nine goals as part of his 33 points in 39 games this past season.
Seeing these numbers makes you think of what's possible this year in the Q for the 20-year-old. If he can stay healthy, there's a chance he could find himself called up to the NHL in time for 2025-26 -- or sooner.
Whatever the case, Maveric Lamoureux is ready for his chance to prove he's NHL-level, and he'll get it sometime soon.
