The 35-year old spoke to reporters on Zoom Tuesday about what he's looking forward to in Utah.

Defenceman Robert Bortuzzo was acquired by trade for Ian Cole by current Utah general manager Bill Armstrong in 2016.

Three years after Cole won two Stanley Cups in a row, Bortuzzo got his own in 2019 in the St. Louis Blues' hard-fought seven-game triumph over the Boston Bruins.

Now he'll get to contribute that experience to a team looking to take the next step.

Bortuzzo spoke to reporters on Zoom Tuesday after signing a one-year, two-way contract with the team, saying he was "grateful" for the opportunity.

He added his excitement to be reunited with Bill Armstrong, who was the assistant general manager in St. Louis when Bortuzzo lifted Lord Stanley in 2019.

"(Bill) always seemed like a very approachable, stand-up guy that was very passionate about winning," Bortuzzo said. "When a guy like that is at your helm, that's a good feeling."

Bortuzzo also has reason to feel good about the young core that's around him, including a deep blue line anchored by Mikhail Sergachev and John Marino, both swept up via trade.

It won't change his role, though, Bortuzzo said; the defenceman said Armstrong and head coach Andre Tourigny want him to "play with an edge" where needed, which is something he didn't have an issue with when Bortuzzo fought Liam O'Brien last season.

"I can't thank them enough for this opportunity," he said. "We're looking to win hockey games; that's all you can ask for as an athlete.
